I seem not to get on LJ as much. Concentrating on Facebook, it seems, and working my little tail off. And an invitation-only board, and another one just for co-workers, and Rosetta Stone.

Rosetta Stone is lots of fun. I'm still way back at the beginning but progressing rapidly. The progress monitoring isn't designed to make starting in the middle intuitive, and I want to be sure that my pronunciation keeps up with my other skills, so I am using the first lessons for practice with that.

My Beetle and I were involved in an accident. Low-speed, so I was fine, but my Beetle is going to have to undergo surgery. Right now, it is a pirate Beetle, because the left front headlight is on the back seat. I have gotten two written opinions from doctors that specialize in this sort of surgery and have a start time at the Beetle hospital of my choice. The hospital is very convenient, and I should be able to see the recovery area from nearby.

My work for the PTA is going apace. I have one thing to do for it today, and I really should stop procrastinating about it.

Good mood

Today, I have been in a very cheerful mood. I got my car to the shop this morning and from there, I got home using the Metro and a little help from my family.

I poked around work-wise and am feeling ahead of the game there.

I did some financial stuff around the house and am not quite as behind the eight ball there.

On Facebook, some reasonable percentage of my friends are having fun with one another in Reno. Good for them!

Mood is still good!

Many of which I had put off too long.

I am doing laundry. Starting with adult dark clothes and I am hoping to get as far as sheets and towels. (ETA: some towels done, lots of adult dark clothes)

I'm changing the Brita filter. (ETA: done)

I am listening to a large number of news reports in Spanish. I am mostly listening to those from the recent days (about Egipto).

I am sending out letters from the PTA that I should have done before the first of February. (ETA: done, thank goodness)

I am planning to run on my treadmill. Or, at least walk.

I am going to see if there is still space to sign Emily up for the Girl Scout camp that she would like to do.

Yeah!!!!! We are back at home for a while anyway.

We are charging up many electronics. And washing clothes, and enjoying a functional heating system.
petmoosie: (Default)
We have a broken dryer. Bleh.
petmoosie: (braids)
But maybe soon.

I have several hats on my head with regards to PTA. One is membership. I am the one who collects all the forms and issues all the cards. National PTA has a database to make that easy (supposably). Right now I am still digging through last year's papers to get the secret codes to make the database work for me. I also have emails into the former holders of my position.

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie is trying desperately to balance the checkbook. He has a large discrepancy from at least two registers back. But he can't resolve it until/unless we find the register three registers back.

Some one has touched my foreign language hat and I will not be calm until his/her situation is settled. I hope that he/she is a fluent English-speaker.

My brother took my child with his two out for a weekend+ at the beach. It's the week before school.

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie and I saw the cold-war-type thriller, SALT, with Angelina Jolie. Man, she makes an attractive man.

Although the prediction is for thunder today and rain tomorrow, I am seeing lots of sunshine here. I was screening my compost today and made a lovely dark pile of dirt. I still see small eggshell bits in there. But my compost tests at about 8 on the pH scale, so I am sure that some Ca++ is becoming available to my plants.

[livejournal.com profile] starstraf 's gave [livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie many pairs of pants, jeans and shorts on Saturday. I am checking the pockets, washing, and folding them.

Emily woke at 4:30am. She asked me every three minutes if it was morning yet. So at 5, I declared it morning.

We decided to make a jar of "things she can do by herself". It only has two items in it right now.

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie is highly tired.
petmoosie: (braids)
So Emily and I are home. There is a pretty good chance that we will go out for ice skating much, much later.

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie is at work. Who had the bright idea of not calling off work for the workers, but calling off school for the students?

Emily and I have decided that there are two plants in her brain; the math one and the reading/writing one. They each need to be watered on a regular basis. The math one is on the left (since she counts on her fingers with her left hand) and the reading/writing one is on the right, since she writes with her right hand. I'm not going to explain the contra-lateral control of the body by the brain at this point.

Tonight we are going to have dinner with the grandparents (my parents). After that, we are going to pick up some groceries.

I was doing laundry and found that there were clothes soaking for who knows how long. They are being washed at the moment.

My sister has asked me to go to two Open Houses for schools that she is considering sending her son to. This week, and they are both in the morning.

I still don't have many of the papers I need for finishing our taxes. I do have both W2s, which is good.

I find it very irritating that our money market fund paid no interest all year long.

Tomorrow is the first day of work for my MCAT class.

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie is having trouble thinking and getting sentences finished. He's just so tired all the time.
petmoosie: (Emily)
Grr. The nearby site has all its slots filled already. All the other (more distant) places don't have dates until February.

Bleh. This is her second dose that I am trying to arrange.
petmoosie: (bad guy)
Or at least a large subset.

I've been listening to Spanish a lot today. 3 15-minute newscasts, 2 11-minute cultural podcasts, and 4 Medical Spanish podcasts.

I emailed about the various obligations I have over the next week (mostly Spanish classes and traffic circle). I did two loads of laundry.

I "helped" Emily sell 3 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies after church.

I still haven't found the papers I am looking for on my desk.
petmoosie: (braids)
Emily has advanced to the next level in ice skating. Kind of a miracle. Today she did all her moves with style and flair...and fell down 3 times when not being graded. But the grade is not for does this easily and consistently. The grade is for does this at all!

I have really made a dent in the check-book balancing. I'm off by a penny somewhere, and I'm not done yet. But I'll find that penny yet!

And I found another list of ISP graduates for the LinkedIN group.
petmoosie: (braids)
Another year, another chance to clear off my desk. Another chance to balance the check-book properly. (That's hard to admit, that it's not balanced correctly).

A chance to connect with old friends and make new friends. To take on new responsibilities and shed old ones. To scale new heights (and not look down).

And to try, try again at whatever has been stopping you.

A rainy day without much in the way of work for [livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie and me. So we are working on some of our medium-term outstanding issues, like organizing my desk.

And we'll have dinner fairly early and close down for sleep somewhat early.
The Geminid meteor shower is supposed to be very good around midnight tonight, but it looks like rain and clouds will continue past that point.
petmoosie: (braids)
It's really a challenge to do anything in the evenings. Either I am working, or [livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie can't come home early.

"WhizKids" is showing at the National Academy of Sciences on Wednesday, Dec. 9th at 7:00pm. It is an in-depth look at 3 competitors in the Intel (formerly Westinghouse) Science Fair. It describes the genesis of their projects, their obstacles and support.
petmoosie: (bad guy)
I am making stew for dinner tonight. I realized too late that I didn't have an onion, so I used onion powder.

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie and Emily are making sock puppets.
petmoosie: (Default)
I lost my Spanish book today. I was reading it while my tire was being fixed. I got in the car, and realized that I didn't have it half-way to Emily's school. After I picked her up, I went back, but it wasn't there.

Whaaahhhhh. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached.
petmoosie: (Emily)
I came home from teaching last night to a computer loaded with pictures of the Millennium Falcon. Emily and [livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie printed out a floor plan, and we had to look for the bathroom (it's there) and the chatting room (not to be confused with the chat room). Emily fell asleep minutes after putting the floor plan on the nightstand.
petmoosie: (Emily)
No, but Emily and [livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie are on it trying to get the leaves off of it.

I was raking out front and it seriously turned into a Tom Sawyer situation. The neighbor children were begging me to let them rake.

So our household (outside) is getting into good shape.
