WoW. Emily is playing it with [livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie watching over her shoulder (at her insistence). It is driving him crazy, since I guess it is first-person viewpoint, and Emily doesn't drive well.

A follow up. I had to fix a few things (including the program, Things) to acknowledge my new phone rather than my old one. I'm finally getting most of the way to having a usable, reliable second brain again.

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie helped me upgrade my phone. I am now addressing thousands of issues, some that existed before and some that are "all new mistakes".

The most annoying issue is definitely the error in my work schedule. I had entered it as every Saturday with a ton of exceptions. The Saturdays stayed but all the exceptions have disappeared!!!!

Tired

I have a headache. I think it is because I am dehydrated. I keep pushing the water, but I am apparently behind the eight ball on this.

Emily is fed, her homework is complete and her hair is braided. She's at Religious Education with a neighbor of mine. This neighbor has a boy in Emily's class at the public school, but he is one year ahead in Religious Education. The neighbor is also a teacher for Religious Education.

The software I am using for Online Tutoring Planning has no built-in intelligence. I have saved stuff in the wrong places, with the wrong filenames. Too much intelligence from me, not enough from the software.

It seems that the latest versions of Internet Explorer won't run on my Mac. The other option listed is to downgrade my Firefox.

Bleh.

Mnemosyne

My memorization project with Mnemosyne is getting better and better. My Spanish is improving by the truckloads.

I need to read the sentences out loud on a regular basis. In fact, in general, I need to read more Spanish out loud.

I downloaded a cultural magazine that the Spanish embassy puts out on a quarterly basis. That might be interesting reading today.

I finally showed Emily home position on the keyboard last night. Her fingers are *still* a little small for the reach into the numbers and especially the reach for the delete key.

Now to find a typing program for her.

A good writer always thinks about his/her audience. A recent article in Wired argues that the advent of social media is improving the sense of "audience" for millions of young people. Although the "misses", such as sending a drunken photo to your teachers/parents/employers, are notable, the average message is tailored for the intended audience much more than before.

My personal connection to this issue is that my mother is critiquing my FaceBook status updates. She thinks they are too boring.

with a Mac's one-button trackpad.

I intend to find some organic chemistry structures for my Mnemosyne deck. And some sound files for my Spanish-language cards.
petmoosie: (braids)
I am planning to use Mnemosyne as a Spaced Repetition System for now (or, I like to think of it as Structured Review System). I have 10 Spanish sentences in there now.
petmoosie: (braids)
Are pretty large this morning, and especially last night. I was reading this blog about spaced repetition systems and how useful they are for learning and memorizing. I was imagining using them for all that organic chemistry that I used to know, all that biology that I know but need to memorize better, and my previously learned foreign languages as well as the language that I am attempting to learn now (Spanish).

So I am going to go hunting on the Web for a system that is iPhone-compatible, uses the sync feature of the iPhone to transfer information, and *doesn't* use text-messages to transfer information.

It is possible that Anki does all this, but not in the default settings.

So tired.

Two more accounts, and two more passwords. How annoying.

One account that is pretty much defunct, but not close-able. Sigh.

Computers are *hard*.

I used my lightbox for 20 minutes this morning. OK, maybe I lost track of time and it was an hour. I am totally revved up. I have a ton of things to do for my PTA committee and some of the information I need is in Yahoo! mail. Mail is acting slow, plus I have a ton of messages that I *could* respond to (mostly having to do with that same committee).

My brain keeps firing up things for me to do. I have a category in my "things" (a todo list) called public health. It seems to include advising people to get the flu vaccine, figure out whether someone should get the nasal vaccine or the shot, and telling people that flu parties are one of the dumbest ideas out there. It also includes donating blood, but that requires sitting still.

Unfortunately for me, I can't listen to podcasts (especially not Spanish) very well in this hyper state. Or study.

I've emailed people this morning, and had a rapid-fire conversation with one of them. I have written most of the stuff for my monthly report. I have filed and refiled stuff and checked my physical mail.

I keep refreshing certain blogs. I really need to settle down and get a life and do something useful.

I have done software updates on my computer.

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie is off to the store with a list. I gave him a sneak peek at the school calender and encouraged him to copy important parts into his iPhone.

I buried the deer feces, that I had been walking over (never on) for days while doing my garden work. I seeded all the bare soil areas with Fall Grass seed, that Emily helped us get at the hardware store. Our neighbor recommended that mixture of grass seed. (Although she dug up all her moss, and I lazily just seeded on top of the moss). I thought that moss was an indicator species, but I can't find a reference to it. The Wikipedia entry says that mosses can be encouraged in acid soil and discouraged in alkaline soil, which is close to the bit that I heard about them being an indicator for acid soil. I already know that the site has lots of rainfall, little light and poor water runoff.

I filled three pots with potting soil and put seeds into two of them. That finished off the potting soil for good. And the cantaloupe seeds are all gone now, also.

It rained really hard last night. So I am not going to worry about watering for a while.

"Things"

Well, I kind of like it. I'm still working on the repeating to-dos (it seems that repeating to-dos can't be put into projects). I guess that projects are supposed to be complete-able.

I have two MCAT biology classes for the spring. I am happy about that.
petmoosie: (braids)
It's cold this morning!! All the ground is frozen through and the plants are hanging over and wilted. It's supposed to be a high of 45 today, so everything will get to thaw and then freeze again tonight. Should be good for breaking up my compost.

T gave me detailed instructions on buying stuff through the apps store. Lets see if I can remember my password.

I paid a whole slew of bills last night (yay, me). Must file, of course.

T wants to go skiing. Oh my! He's really, really good at spending money. :-) Dude, we have a totally depleted cash cushion (we're practically sitting on the springs).

PTA-related. I am putting together a poster (or a triptych) for Russia for International Night. I think that the backings are sold in arts and crafts supply stores, so I don't have to engineer something that will stand up. I wonder if anyone is doing Ukraine, because I have several things that might be appropriate.
petmoosie: (braids)
Today, T and I are finally taking down the tree. Finally.

T suggests that I get "Things" for my iPhone and my computer so that I can have the functionality of a to-do list. I think he is completely right!

I've been loading up Facebook with pictures from the last couple of months. Emily has gotten some great ones of T, with the regular assortment of pictures of her thumb. It's harder to get a good picture of me (good meaning slimming :-)).

Tonight's dinner was a roast with potatoes and carrots. Yummy. It was preseasoned with a red wine and some spices (thank you, Trader Joe's).

Podcasts

I am finally dispensing with music on my iPod and going solely to podcasts. I am such a dweeb!!!  But the thought of lowering the number of not-yet-listened-to podcasts is addictive.

There are many things that I can get finished around the house while listening to podcasts (especially the ones in English, where I don't quite need to hear every word). Even running certain errands is not incompatible.
petmoosie: (together)
I am still mid-transfer from one PDA to another (both attached to phones and sync-able with my computer). But the formats and where all the information belongs is not so compatible.

My sister is trying to inspire me to organize by forming a mini-support group with me. We'll see how THAT goes. That is mostly about cleaning up the house and filing papers.

I don't know how I will post every day in November if there is a prolonged outage tomorrow. Oh well.
