Well, to an approximation at least.

There was a PTA meeting last night. The principal brought up the fact that the county education budget is being finalized. He wanted to make sure that the parents knew that the budget is not increasing at the same level as the population is increasing, nor at the level that immigration is increasing. He had a few comments about some of the options on the table for accommodating this decrease in dollars per student. Pretty normal stuff. He suggested contacting our County Council representatives and State representatives and Senators. And, for that matter, our national representatives.

The Book Fair chairperson said that this is very important. She offered to provide a series of "talking points" and the contact information for these people. She said that it wouldn't be any trouble; this is what she does for a living. She's a professional lobbyist. For that matter, so is the PTA vice-president. Hmmm. We did not take a survey to see how many other lobbyists were present, but that might be interesting.

I think that the more exposure that a child has to the tricky parts of their environments, the better the child learns to be safe in that environment. Perhaps, this theory needs more work.

I took two rambunctious girls on the Metro to see a museum in downtown DC. I used moral persuasion to get them to sit down only after several stops. It was a quieter time of day, not rush hour, for both the downtown trip and the return trip. I hope that the investment of the effort to corral them teaches them to behave on a train in the future. Someday, i will need to take her at rush hour.

It's really a challenge to do anything in the evenings. Either I am working, or [livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie can't come home early.

"WhizKids" is showing at the National Academy of Sciences on Wednesday, Dec. 9th at 7:00pm. It is an in-depth look at 3 competitors in the Intel (formerly Westinghouse) Science Fair. It describes the genesis of their projects, their obstacles and support.

[livejournal.com profile] starstraf and I met up at the National Geographic Building. The main exhibit area is being prepared for Terra-Cotta warriors. But there was a selection of "best of" pictures outside and a slew of gorgeous polar pictures inside. Especially pictures of polar animals, such as seals, penguins, polar bears, and others.

I have a bunch of Spanish to do for tonight. But I was amused by this week's Medical Spanish podcast, "STD symptoms in men". I think I can guess what next week's Medical Spanish podcast will be, """""in women".

I found the cafe that my sister used to go to when she worked at the Department of Justice. The Sun Spot Cafe at 440 1rst St., NW Washington DC. The closest Metro station is probably Judiciary Square and Archives is probably next, with Union Station giving it a run for the money.
