Saw a play

Chess, the Cold War musical. We saw it with [livejournal.com profile] starstraf and sweetie. It was in Arlington, so we had to go to Virginia. We actually approached from Rock Creek Parkway and Potomac Park, so we went under the patio of the Kennedy Center.

All the signature songs went off well. My favorite is Anthem. [livejournal.com profile] starstraf 's sweetie likes "Nobody on Nobody's Side" best. The ensemble dancers were a bit cheesy, which grew on us over the course of the play.

Here is a link about parents planning to get their children in the event of an emergency.

Now, that makes sense in small towns or rural areas (I think, I haven't actually lived in either enough to be sure). But the major cities better get on this more.

I wish that this was broken down into areas that have been through it before (NYC, DC, Oklahoma City, and maybe San Francisco) and areas that have to prepare seriously anyway, like LA and San Diego (for earthquakes). I would hope that those areas have a greater awareness of what to do.

In our schools, emergencies are classified in three ways (and I only know two of them) Code Red and Code Blue. Code Red is get the kids out and Code Blue is cower in a safe(r) place.

Some times I really shouldn't try and make up the subject before typing the post.

Heard the news today, oh boy. It sounded like a white-on-black hate crime at first and made me think about "The most segregated hour in America is 10 am on a Sunday". I want to talk about that, even though the connection to the news was disproved in the next report.

My particular church has always had a motto of welcoming. The first pastor had to be publicly corrected to stop allowing non-Catholics to take communion. (Apparently, Vatican II was confusing at first and needed to be explained.) But when I was a child, the church (and school) were only integrated by adopted children from Asia.

Now my church has a sister church in Haiti. Not only do they trade priests for a week or two twice a year, but a few families were sponsored. And that made us known as a friendly place for French-speaking African immigrants. And it is *integrated*, not replaced. So my Sundays are *not* the most segregated time of my week.

That's all. An observation, and an old quote.
