Brush teeth
Jul. 28th, 2008 09:49 pmSome times I really shouldn't try and make up the subject before typing the post.
Heard the news today, oh boy. It sounded like a white-on-black hate crime at first and made me think about "The most segregated hour in America is 10 am on a Sunday". I want to talk about that, even though the connection to the news was disproved in the next report.
My particular church has always had a motto of welcoming. The first pastor had to be publicly corrected to stop allowing non-Catholics to take communion. (Apparently, Vatican II was confusing at first and needed to be explained.) But when I was a child, the church (and school) were only integrated by adopted children from Asia.
Now my church has a sister church in Haiti. Not only do they trade priests for a week or two twice a year, but a few families were sponsored. And that made us known as a friendly place for French-speaking African immigrants. And it is *integrated*, not replaced. So my Sundays are *not* the most segregated time of my week.
That's all. An observation, and an old quote.
