Gardening--I have a question. Many of my trees bent over with the weight of all the snow. Some of them have not straightened even after the removal of the snow weighing them down. Will they straighten themselves when the sap rises? Will they straighten themselves when they leaf out? Are they going to be stuck in the bent-over position forever (or until they die)?

My Spanish class has been canceled (for spring, the teacher will try to put together a class in the fall). I will need to be sure that I am practicing Spanish every day. And that I am practicing at least a little grammar, which is not my favorite.

No more snow!! I'm enjoying watching the melting. We are due to have some flurries (30% chance) tonight and tomorrow and more heavy snowfall (60% chance) between Monday, Feb. 22 and Wednesday, Feb. 24. With any luck these will not amount to any real accumulation. Highs are predicted to be above 32 degrees for the entire 10-day forecast. Let it melt, let it melt, let it melt!

We're watching the icicles drip.

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie got some pictures of the snow. I'm tired of the weather being the most exciting thing to discuss.

The measurement.

Emily on Snow Mountain

Climbing Snow Mountain.

So that's that for the snow.

Maybe, I'll descend on unsuspecting friends elsewhere. Someone with children about the same age.

I really need to check what is actually closed in addition to the schools.

It's windy

[livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie is going into work.

The icicles are dripping at a rapid rate. Temperatures are predicted to be above freezing for the days, and well below freezing for the nights.

I hope that it melts slowly enough that the sewers are not overwhelmed.

No school tomorrow!  More snow predicted tomorrow.

We'll have to be sure to go sledding.

Last year, [livejournal.com profile] cvirtue was in danger of having school go into August. This year, it's our turn.

And having power. Life is good.

Browse, browse, browse the Web.

School is starting (has started) on schedule and will dismiss 2.5 hours early.

Snowmaggedon may now occur.
petmoosie: (braids)
We'll find out what the school system thinks about this storm.

Emily got her report card today. Mostly 3s and 4s (3 is good and 4 is above and beyond; 4s are not necessarily achievable in every subject). One 2 in "Understands the role of the individual and the group in the political process". I'm not exactly sure what lies behind that standard.

So I guess that the crows and the robins are both sure that winter is done. Either that or they are counting on Emily to throw birdseed.

Tonight and tomorrow are supposed to be snow-free. On Friday, it's supposed to start in mid-morning and just keep getting heavier and heavier.

So, we will spend a good deal of the weekend snowed-in again. I will try to get stuff for all the dinners for the weekend in a shopping run tomorrow, just like the rest of the SAHMs.

I've mailed off the most important bills. I guess we're in good shape for this adventure. But bleh!
petmoosie: (bad guy)
Well, I don't know how much is too much.

But International Night is canceled!!
petmoosie: (braids)
So I'd better get some things done today.

I have over 100 cards to do today in my Mnemosyne deck. That's because I put in a ton of vocabulary from the GRE recently. Most of it I know by heart, so I just have to enter 5s for a while and it will become scheduled for really long times. Some of the first batch of vocabulary are already scheduled with times of 66 days to 86 days. Very few of my Spanish examples are scheduled for times over 20 days. Those few are ones I understand very well.

Emily's Girl Scout Cookie sales have gone very well indeed. She now has 66 boxes sold.

It's a nice day today with highs up to 53°F. It will get colder as the week goes on. I believe I am seeing tiny buds on some of the trees. That could be wishful thinking however.
petmoosie: (dc)
The high today *might* be freezing. For the rest of the week, it will cycle between the mid-30s and the mid-20s. Anything that can expand and contract will be doing it all week. Potholes will be growing.
petmoosie: (braids)
This is a tough time of year for real news. The news outlets do all their best/worst of 2009, and this year they are doing the best/worst of 2000-2009.

It's highly windy today.

I need to figure out my volunteer hours for Dec. They are going to be pretty large.
petmoosie: (Default)
I think the rain is stopping.

The land around here is saturated with water. I am hoping for a dry(er) week.

The leaves are decaying pretty well at this point, though.

It's not very easy to pack this snow; it's dry and powdery. It crushes down easier. Emily and I walked up the street and played with S. and her dad and a twelve-year-old and her dad. S. went in because her gloves got cold. Emily wanted to persist in trying to build a fort. It just didn't work because the snow would crush down every time. It took a long time to convince her to come home. So now we're a bit cold and trying to make hot chocolate. Well, actually the Virgo in the house is trying to clean up a spill before he will even try to make hot chocolate.
petmoosie: (braids)
We're home before the snow storm. Now to do the snow dance, read books and watch activities be canceled.

Everyone on the East Coast snuggle down and stay safe.
petmoosie: (Default)
A rainy day without much in the way of work for [livejournal.com profile] mrmoosie and me. So we are working on some of our medium-term outstanding issues, like organizing my desk.

And we'll have dinner fairly early and close down for sleep somewhat early.
The Geminid meteor shower is supposed to be very good around midnight tonight, but it looks like rain and clouds will continue past that point.

Weather

Dec. 5th, 2009 01:20 pm
petmoosie: (Emily)
It is snowing. Wet, slushy snow. It's falling in wet, sloppy, big drops flakes. The ground around here (particularly at Emily's school) is saturated with water, so even when it melts, it has a difficult time draining.

The low tonight is supposed to be 27°F. All that standing water/slush will freeze in interesting shapes and lots of slippery sidewalks. At some point, I will have to dig out the salt to put over the driveway and sidewalk to minimize the slipperiness of our sidewalk.

Emily went to "Breakfast with Santa" this morning, followed by ice skating. Both events were loaded with children who were very happy to see all the snow.
petmoosie: (Science)
There are still some leaves to fall. The bulbs are all in the ground.

The compost is full of the innards of pumpkins.

The sheer number of events on Wednesday is excessive.
