Tuesday--lovely Tuesday.
T and Emily are slightly sun-burnt. Emily got sunburned where her bikini bottom slipped down (and hadn't been sunscreened because it was supposed to be covered), so she looks like the inverse of the little girl in the Coppertone ads. I got away with out much in the way of burning, just a suspicious patch on one elbow (mostly tan with a tiny hint of red).
I spent much of the day in mommy-gossip. Two of the mommies are planning to increase their work/professional commitments significantly with the coming of kindergarten. Homework load and "the letter" were discussed. "The letter" is a letter sent to the school asking for certain teachers or to avoid certain teachers. Also if your child can not get along with another child, you can request that the two children be in separate classes. The separating the children is something I have to think about and perhaps discuss with the parents of the other child I am thinking of (and perhaps with the preschool teachers again). I would rather the two children learn to get along (since the third child of their love triangle is going to a different school).
Homework--At least one of the first-graders was experiencing trouble with the load of 18 page packets to be completed from Monday to Friday. The unusual instructions (or lack of instructions) with the packet mean that the parent often can not figure out what is to be done for the homework and must rely on the child's understanding of the instructions from class.
Volunteer work and the heavy load that it can take on parents was also discussed.
A new job for one of the fathers was discussed.
Strategies for learning vocabulary were also discussed.
