T went to a PTA meeting last night. Special presentation by one of the teachers that coordinates a special program there and a question and answer session with the principal (who is new this year, 2007-2008 school year). Only about 25-30 of the potentially 800 parents were there (there was babysitting available, for potty-trained children). There was not any interpretation (deaf, Spanish, or any Asian language). T didn't pick up any Spanish-language pre-printed materials. There is a line item in the PTA budget (not the school budget, which certainly uses tons of translation support) for translation and interpretation, and it looks like they spent it all.
Emily got bored waiting for daddy to come home, so we went off in search of him. We took it slow because Emily wanted to look for clues (and I am still recovering) and I didn't think the meeting would end before 8:30pm. I wish that I had taken a jacket because I managed to work up a cold sweat in the first couple of minutes. Sure enough at about 8:30 we were passed by a neighbor returning home from the meeting and then T called and picked us up.
Orientation is just a few weeks away. I may have to learn how to make cookies or brownies. Hmmm
