Major tears

Last night we got to the part in "The Hobbit" where Thorin dies. Emily didn't get it for a while, but when the body was being prepared for burial and the elf-king (?) put Orchrist by Thorin, she got it. She asked a few questions to be certain. And the water works started. I didn't know that Thorin was such an attractive character. Then she resolved it with "a miracle and Thorin wakes up and most of his owies are OK, but the one on his arm is bleeding a little bit". So I was Thorin and she was Bilbo and Tim was Gandalf.

Actually, usually Tim plays Thorin and Gandalf isn't there. But the principle is the same. She may be projecting.

I am just surprised that Thorin is worth playing. Sometimes, she'll have us play Fili or Kili or Bombur, but more often it is Thorin. When I read it for the first time, my favorite dwarf was Bombur.

Personally, I was never that interested in any of the dwarves; they're background characters, prone to making stupid mistakes (sort of like the Token Love Interest in an action movie). Bilbo and Gandalf are the interesting ones.

Bilbo also makes some stupid mistakes. But some of them work out.
It's a buddy story and Gandalf takes off, so the rest of them HAVE to make friends.
