Um, don't forget, Thorin was prime motivator and leader of the quest. He also gifted the mithril shirt (a kingly gift worth more than the Shire!) to Bilbo at Erebor, then insulted him as "a descendant of rats" after he snook the Arkenstone as his share and gave it away, and finally made up with him after the Battle of Five Armies, parting with the words, "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But, sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell."
Thorin gains wisdom in the end.
I'm with Emily. Thorin rocks. And his passing, something to cry about.
I'm very happy to hear that Thorin wakes up and most of his owies are ok!
