What has changed since Earth Day 1989 or Earth Day 1979?

More houses, residential areas, bigger houses.
More recycling, improvements in recycling.
Solar energy, solar panels are vastly improved.
Montreal Protocol for CFCs.
Awareness up and down in cycles--currently higher.
High (and low) gas prices.
Local food awareness.
The rise of China as a manufacturer.
More testing of compounds (some pulled due to toxicity).
