We are working on the major planning feat of having dinner with friends without Emily. I think Rumsfeld invaded Iraq with less planning than we've already put into this. We still need the location and to figure out what to feed the babysitter. What is the catering branch of Halliburton? Actually, no, the babysitter is coming directly from pizza at UNO's, why should we feed her?

I love my knitting; it's very calming.

Today, I have not one, but two small children in my house after school. Actually, they do entertain each other.

Emily wants to see "Horton Hears a Who" in the theater. T wants me to check the book out from the library, so Emily is prepared. I'm not sure that that is necessary, but it's worth making T happy.

T seems more relaxed. Either he has given up on keeping up with work or things must be getting better.

There will be a frost on Saturday, but I hope that it will be the last one of the season. I could plant my peas today or tomorrow, i guess. I should spread the remaining manure before planting anything.

We have erosion to fix on the side of our house. I guess we could use rocks and terracing. It has to be walkable, since the mail delivery person likes to use it to go between our house and our neighbor's.

I am happy that Spanish is going better. It's about time.

I've given up LinkedIn for Lent. And I am seriously addicted (T already knew this). I didn't shut down my profile or anything, I just stopped logging in three and four times a day.

However, two recruiters have managed to find me during my time off. It matches the "a watched pot never boils" theory.

So I have been better at actually forming links while I am on hiatus than normally. I am hoping for a job for a friend out of this.

Earth day

Emily has big plans for Earth day. She wants to participate in an environmental clean-up, preferably at the stream. She wants to help our backyard tree grow.

She also is thinking about planting more trees. I mentioned Arbor Day, and we discussed where we might want to put trees on our property. We are still thinking about our erosion problem.

She and the boy I babysit on Thursdays watered the tree in the backyard again. She really thinks that watering that tree with a watering can makes a difference in how much water it gets.

They also played a lot on our front hill. Which reminds me that I have to make sure that whatever I put there is a good surface for children to run up and down. It's another place where erosion could be a factor (but it isn't, for reasons I don't understand).
