History through Disney

Emily has been watching the movie, Pocahontas. So we had to look it up in Wikipedia. T found a game where you build a triangular fort like in Jamestown. We *could* go on a field trip sometime.

We have a leaf pile about 5 feet in diameter and three to four feet high. It's humongous. It is not supposed to rain between now and the 25th, so Emily's birthday guests will get to see it. T's plan for one of the games is to "splash down" into the leaf pile.

Compost

The compost pile is full of vines and locust bush remains. I am adding carrot tops and potato eyes and other debris from stew (or Hungarian goulash). It's probably too cold for much biological digestion (lows in the mid-30s)--the earthworms are probably hibernating--, but the mechanical compression and mixing and shattering should be getting started.

Book review--American Nerd

The full title is "American Nerd: The Story of My People". The author is Ben Nugent.

The title should be "Amherst Nerd: The Story of my D&D Group". This book only works as autobiography. All the attempts (and there are many) to generalize founder on the shores of the generation difference between this author (only 30) and me (much older).

I do not recommend this book.
